Tottenham
star Kanoute cleared to play in African Nations Cup >> [BACK TO NEWS

Tottenham Hotspur striker Frederic Kanoute
has today been cleared to take the field for Mali in the African
Nations Cup which commences on the 24th January 2004.
The former West Ham forward played for France at Under-21 level,
but has chosen to represent the country of his parents birth,
a decision which has seemed to frustrate his club.
Kanoute is the North London teams top scorer this season, and
for him to go to the international soccer tournament with his
country will be a damaging blow to a side that are currently struggling
in the bottom half of the English Premiership.
Indeed, Kanoute is not the only player to be involved in the controversy
surrounding the African Nations Cup. Bolton Wanderers Nigerian
star Jay-Jay Okocha, and his fellow countryman, Kanu of another
London club Arsenal, have both been called up to the fury of their
clubs, and Arsenal are remaining adamant that Kanu will not be
travelling to Tunisia in less than 3 weeks time.
