Aston Villa have enjoyed very little success in recent years, but in the early 1900's were one of the teams to beat.
They became the second team to complete the League and FA Cup "double" back in 1897.
Despite the success, they were labelled as "The Villains" when in 1895, as holders of the FA Cup, they put the trophy on display in the window of a sports shop. The Cup was stolen and was never recovered. This has been their nickname ever since.
Winners of the first ever League Cup back in 1961, and owners of a successful history, their only joy in the last 25 years was a league title, European Cup and Two League Cups.
Villa are still seen as the top team in the Midlands but with the re-emergance of West Bromwich Albion, and Birmingham City, the perennial underachievers will soon have to start performing to the standard that their ability suggests. And with players like Darius Vassell and promising young German midfielder Tomas Hitzlsperger, their fans will be hoping that the clubs fortunes can finally be turned round again.
