Originally named Dial Square and then Woolwich Arsenal, the club dropped the Woolwich and became 'Arsenal following the First World War.
The club's most successful period came in the 1930's where they claimed a hat-trick of titles and 5 in total that decade. They also claimed two FA Cups during this time too.
Arsenal also notched League titles in the 40's and 50's and indeed the only decadethe club has failed to lift a trophy was in the 1960's.
In the 70's, the club achieved their first League and FA Cup Double, and reached 3 FA Cup Finals, beating Man Utd 3-2 in the memorable final of 79.
The 1980's saw Arsenal win the first ever 'League Cup' and they won the League again in 1989.
During George Grahams tenure, the 1990's were most successful as they won the League in 91, achieved the domestic Cup Double in 93 and then beat Parma to lift the Cup Winners Cup in 94.
Following Graham's departure, Bruce Rioch failed to inspire the side and Arsene Wenger - the first non British coach appointed in England - took the helm and promply turned the Gunners into a force to be reckoned with and his reward came with the clubs 2nd League and Cup Double in 1998. Wenger then achieved this feat again in 2002, as Arsenal were the best team by a mile.
With the educated Frenchman still at the helm, and class players like Viera, Henry and Bergkamp, Arsenal could yet continue their current dominance of the English game for a little while longer.

QUICK FACT
Arsenal's longest run without a victory was 19 games back in the 1912/13 campaign.
